Green Graphite Technologies to enhance sustainable graphite production, supporting the rapid growth of Canada’s electric vehicle market.
Montréal, Canada, Sept 23rd, 2024
Green Graphite Technologies Inc. (GGT), a leader in sustainable graphite solutions for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, is excited to announce that it has secured $816k in funding as part of a $3.4M collaborative project with Calumix Technologies in a major initiative to contribute to Canada’s circular economy for EV batteries. This funding is provided by Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen), a non-profit organization leading Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for Advanced Manufacturing.
This strategic investment will enable GGT to scale its production process for high-purity graphite, a critical component in EV batteries, and contribute to building a strong and sustainable EV value chain in Canada. GGT’s innovative technology ensures that graphite is sourced and processed with minimal environmental impact, aligning with the global push towards greener energy solutions. Calumix will then incorporate that graphite in their proprietary carbon coated current collectors for lithium-ion batteries.
Sustainable Innovation for the Future of Transportation
GGT’s mission is to drive the electrification of transportation by providing manufacturers with the highest quality graphite while minimizing the environmental impact. The funding will allow GGT to expand its operations and accelerate the development of new technologies aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of graphite production. “We are thrilled to be part of this exciting initiative,” said Gillian Holcroft, CEO of Green Graphite Technologies Inc. “This funding not only accelerates our growth but also reinforces Canada’s position as a global leader in the EV supply chain. Our commitment to sustainability and innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and this investment is a testament to our team’s hard work and vision for a cleaner, greener future.”
Calumix is pragmatically scaling their carbon coating capacity for the lithium-ion battery supply chain, a key requirement for delivering affordable North American EVs. “The technologies exist today, but the deployed capacities in the supply chain have a long way to go,” said Gordon McArthur, CEO of Calumix Technologies. “This NGen sponsored project is funding two sustainable solutions needed for a cleaner transportation sector in North America.”
A Key Role in Canada’s EV Ecosystem
As the demand for EVs continues to grow, the need for a reliable and sustainable supply of battery materials has never been more critical. GGT is proud to contribute to this evolving ecosystem by providing solutions for essential materials that meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability. This funding will also support collaborative efforts with other key players in the Canadian EV value chain, fostering innovation and ensuring that Canada remains at the forefront of the global transition to electric vehicles.
